FROM CALIFORNIA BACK TO N.Y.

After things went to hell with the lesbian couple I was living with, I devised a story to get back to New York, which I'm still ashamed of and will not mention here (some things we have to keep to ourselves). The return trip took about three and a half days and was covered with gray skies.

Santa Barbara, CA - Las Vegas, NV

Going back down the coast in the daylight wasn't as special as coming into Santa Barbara that way because of the reasons I was leaving. I didn't feel better until coming out of L.A., though we did stop in Hollywood and I did finally get to see the famous sign. We got into Barstow just when it was turning dark and I didn't have to get off the bus there or in Las Vegas, where we parked right next to a huge pyramid with a monorail coming out of it. I feel asleep soon after and missed most of Utah.

Las Vegas, NV - Denver, CO

After sleeping through most of Utah, coming into Colorado in the daytime was quite a sight. There were huge amounts of skiing lodges in the valleys along the highway and coming into Denver from nearly a mountaintop was something that I would recommend everyone should see. In Denver I had a short layover and was on a shorter route back to New York. I was very sorry to see the mountains behind me, which disappeared the same way they appeared, all of a sudden we were on plains.

Chicago, IL to Cortland, NY

Chicago was actually a pretty interesting place to drive through. The city itself was quite nice to see and driving out of there I saw one of the lowest income communities I have ever seen. There were tiny houses (almost huts) with roads that were not paved and not even really roads, just dirt that was used to drive on between the houses. After that it was all pretty familiar so I slept most of the way into Cortland.
