MONTREAL

I've heard it said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and while the pictures I post here are worth about 298.3 words (on average), I will let them do most of the storytelling.

The first time I tried to get into Canada and attempt to check out Montreal was with Lyndon. We had made a great trip to Oswego, NY and Lake Ontario where I picked up some beautiful rocks that we later sprayed with polyurethane to make them look like they just came out of the water (and the idea was very successful). We decided after that we weren't done with the day and looked at the map to find we were not too far from Canada. We drove north and saw some great coastline on the east side of the lake and when we crossed the bridge over the Thousand Islands area we were both very excited. However, when they asked us if we had been to Canada before, I said yes and Lyndon said no and they asked us to step out of the car in order for them to check out our records and search our car. No big deal, we thought it would take about a half an hour, an hour at the most. Three hours later they told us we could not go in due to Lyndon's impending court case and we drove all the way back home in a bad mood.

The idea to go to Montreal the second time was a spontaneous idea on Martin's part. Lyndon had broke up with me days before him and I were supposed to make a trip to Provincetown for the weekend. Obviously that didn't happen (you didn't see it listed, did you?) and Martin, the prince that he is, suggested this. I was dubious at first because of the first attempt but Martin told me to just say I had been there before. It went off without a hitch. I was amazed at the French signs and kilometers per hour that made it seem like we were doing 120 on the freeway. Ontario's roads stunk but Quebec's were a noticeable improvement. Driving into Montreal at dusk was amazing enough to forget to take pictures. We had a heck of a time trying to find the street we were looking for and we drove past the Molson brewery and could smell beer in the car even with the windows closed. I wondered how many people got pulled over for drunk driving on that street.

On the first night we did not take many pictures. However, we had a fabulous French dinner and went to a Karaoke bar where I sang "Santa Monica" by Everclear, Martin sang "White Rabbit", and we both sang "Seven Bridges Road". The bar stayed open till 4 am.

The next day we visited the Olympic Stadium, the Biodome, and did some walking around downtown. Here are the thumbnails which you can click on for a better view and explanation:

By then our feet started to hurt, so we took a nap before going out on the town at night for dinner and more pictures:

Our final day we decided to take another trip out on the town and get some sun because we were feeling somewhat hung over. We took one last slew of pictures of the town and on the way out:

All in all it was a beautiful trip and I would love to take a vacation there and maybe stay for a whole month in order to explore everything else the city had to offer. Thank you, Martin.
