POETRY

As you might have read in the biography part, I started writing when I was nine years old. It was very derivative of movies and my fantasies within them. Then I became a senior in high school  and started writing derivative poetry from song lyrics being that I had a lot to work with when I started listening to R.E.M. It wasn't until Christmas Eve of 1995 when I wrote my first original poem, titled "The Moon and a Star",  inspired by the then recent loss of my first love and an astronomical event where Venus was aligned almost perfectly with the crescent moon. From then on I was unstoppable.

I might Richard Gomez and my writing went through the roof, I wrote so much about that guy, a minute amount of it actually good. After that ended my psyche changed and after trying out and liking marijuana my poems became very arch and experimental. After that I evened out a little and started to make them my own meaning, however arch, but understandable enough to make an impression. I tried out many poetry readings until one night I read a very gay poem and the person after me had to affirm that she was not gay. I decided to start writing for my own use.

I met Tom and my poetry blossomed after some constructive criticism from the true artist side he had. Then Dan came along and everything I learned from Tom became stunted in paranoia, drug intake, and general depression. Then I bought a copy of Beck's "Midnite Vultures". Somehow that woke me up and I began writing like a fool again, and some of my best work came out of this period.

I moved in with Nessa for the first time and my mom's death came soon after, offering up a spurt of material before a 5-6 month depression spell. Toaph made his way into my life then and my poetry skyrocketed once again. Those were the best infatuation poems I ever wrote because this time I was being overly critical in order to post them for his and others' consumption. I wrote from the heart but let the mind do the editing. Some of what came out of this time was excellent, some not.

Since that dried up, I haven't been writing poetry much lately at all. I have had inspiration but when they came I had a scrap piece of paper and it's been difficult to gather them again. Maybe posting these will increase inspiration once again. Even my cat knows I have much material to write.

In any case, here's a small sample of my writings. I will post more but want to see how these go over first. Opinions are more than welcome.
